Two Ways To Set Up Solar Powered Outdoor Lights

Rebecca Holmes

If your business is thinking about using solar paneled outdoor lights to light up the parking lot and surrounding areas, you actually have two different installation options. You can choose to set up freestanding solar powered lights, or you can hook your solar powered lights into your local power grid. The option you choose really depends on the needs of your business.

Freestanding Outdoor Solar Powered Lights

With freestanding outdoor solar powered lights, you do not have to worry about hooking the lights up to the local electrical grid. This will save you from having to pay for all the digging and work that goes into connecting your outside solar lights to the local electrical grid.

However, you will need to factor in the cost of batteries. When you have freestanding solar powered lights, batteries are attached to the units. These batteries store all of the power that is generated from the sun during the day, and then uses that energy to power the lights at night.

Depending on the lights that you choose to install, you may need to replace the batteries every 18–24 months. You will need to factor in the cost and time it will take to replace the batteries when needed in to your long-term cost and time assessment.

On the plus side, your lights will not generate or add to your energy bill at all.

Outdoor Solar Powered Lights Connected To The Local Power Grid

If you choose to connect your outside solar powered lights to the local power grid, you will have to pay more up-front to install the lights. You will have to pay to dig the trenches needed to connect the lights to the power grid. If you have to go through cement, you will have to add in re-paving costs as well.

When you connect to the local power grid, you don't have to worry about purchasing and changing out batteries. Instead, all the energy your solar panels collect will go back into the power grid and be credited towards your energy bill.

On your monthly electricity bill, you will get a credit for all the energy the solar panels on your lights collected. You will be charged for the energy that you use; however, the credits should offset any costs.

Freestanding solar powered lights require less money and time to install, but require a little more up-keep down the road. Solar powered outdoor lights that are connected to the power grid may cost more to install initially, but don't require the same up-keep. In order to make the choice that is right for you, make sure to consult with a commercial lighting expert.

About Me
Exploring Clothes Dryers

Hi there, I am Freddie Montega. I would like to talk to you about clothes dryers. Growing up, I helped my family line dry all of the clothing and linens used each week. We clipped the clothing onto the lines and allowed the sun and wind to take the moisture out of the fabric. This process took a long time but made our clothing smell amazing. When the first clothes dryer came out, we resisted the urge to buy one new. Instead, we waited awhile longer. Once we finally bought one, however, we were hooked. Even though that appliance seemed incredibly advanced, clothes dryers have come a long way from the very first models. I hope to explore the various features that clothes dryers offer today through my site. I hope you will come back often to learn all you can.
